A virtual meeting of officials and members of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce was organized by Iranian Consulate General in Karachi and the Pakistani Embassy in Tehran.
Speaking at the webinar, Iranian Consul General in Karachi Hassan Nourian said that the Islamic Republic's foreign policy is based on the priority of relations with its neighbors.
He said although Iran and Pakistan have very good relations in political and cultural areas, but the level of economic relations between the two countries requires more serious measures by the governments of the two countries.
He pointed out the significant potential between the two neighboring pharmaceutical industries.
He added that more knowledge of each other's capacities and the use of infrastructure such as rail corridors and ECO roads on the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul route should be encouraged.
The diplomat said new border crossing points between Iran and Pakistan and the existence of air freight service facilities through Iran Air on direct flights to Tehran and Karachi and the use of the capacity of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Investment Company can be used to increase trade cooperation.
Business activists and investors participating in the webinar said that the most important challenge in developing trade relations between Iran and Pakistan was the lack of banking channel and the problem of financial and monetary transfer.
"The reasonable price of energy and transportation costs in Iran is a good opportunity to design joint ventures in pharmaceutical products," said Massoud Ahmad, trade and investment adviser at Pakistan embassy in Tehran.
Najmuddin Hassan Java, Chairman of the Iran-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce affiliated with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of this country, expressed hope that by creating joint production units, it is possible to meet the mutual pharmaceutical needs of Iran and Pakistan.
